On August 19th, 2023, a tragic accident occurred in Mapinga, South Africa, involving a Mahindra vehicle and a cross-border Trip Trans bus. The incident resulted in the death of four individuals, including two Chinhoyi police officers.
According to the National Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Nkosi Dlamini, the accident occurred at approximately 10:30 am local time. The Mahindra vehicle was traveling on the R56 road towards Mapinga when it collided with the Trip Trans bus that was heading in the opposite direction.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to spin out of control, and they came to a stop on the side of the road. Unfortunately, two police officers who were traveling in the Mahindra vehicle perished in the accident, along with two passengers in the Trip Trans bus.
Assistant Commissioner Dlamini stated that the investigation into the accident is ongoing, and the cause of the collision is yet to be determined. The National Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has also been called in to assist with the investigation.
The incident has caused shock and sadness among the local community, and the police department has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of those who perished in the accident. The department has also assured the public that it will do everything in its power to ensure that justice is served for those involved in the tragedy.
